Bamdur123 is here today with this small set of modder assets for the original Star Wars Battlefront. This file contains some MSH and ODF files for placing your very own acklay starship in your map. This is not a very well-realized concept, however, as the model does not move at all and simply flies around the map looking ridiculous. Regardless, if the concept of having a flying acklay that shoots things in your map appeals to you, then look no further than this here file.

Day of SWBF – Winter Edition

Though MPC may be in the final stages of life, SWBF has seen a real resurgence in activity recently, as has MPC itself (ironically). To celebrate that increase in activity and to maximize the enjoyment of SWBF while there are still people actually playing it, MPC is going to organize another Day of SWBF.

If you aren’t familiar with the basic premise of a Day of SWBF, essentially it is a day where we try to get as many servers as possible serving up SWBF and as many people as we can playing the games- yes, games, as there ARE games other than SWBF1 in the series!- in order to have a temporary reminder of the greatness of the game that brought all of us together.

While MPC (and SWBFMac) are good venues to spread the information around, we need your help to get everyone involved in this! Contact everyone you know who’s ever played Battlefront and tell them to get the game reinstalled and come play with everyone else. Don’t know anyone who doesn’t play SWBF? Get some friends in real life to drop by! The more the merrier. The last time we did this, we got several people involved that hadn’t played in a long time, and we want that to be the result of this Day too.

What day is the Day of SWBF? It is December 11th, 2010! If you can come for any part of the day, please do so!

That’s not all, though… we’re going to host some events! There will be a Mod Map server up throughout the day hosting some of the conversion maps from SWBFII, and there will be a Mod Map Runthrough at a certain time (to be determined). If you are interested in having your clan do a Clan vs. All, then contact me and we’ll get you slotted in sometime. Don’t want to participate? You can just play on some of the fun servers that will be up all day. Mac players are included too- you can join one of the DC servers that will be up throughout the day.

Tool: Aries’ Sniper Reticule

Aries or O.B has released today these reticules for all the sniper classes and all those with pistols. Essentially, both crosshairs are modified to better show you where your bullets will be going in order to increase your aiming potential.

The mod is installed by overwriting the common.lvl file in C:/Program Files/Star Wars Battlefront/GameData/Data/_LVL_PC/Common/ENG. Make sure you backup the original.

Review: Flying Droids!

bamdur123 comes to us today with this mod for the CIS side of Battlefront 1. The mod essentially makes a good percentage of the droids available for play have jetpacks with infinite fuel and changes around a few weapons.

The Super Battledroid, the Assault droid, and the Pilot droid all are given jetpacks to fly around the map with. There is no limit to how long they can fly. The sniper has been given a rifle that shoots really long and wide bullets that take forever to disappear, which can be disorienting. The droideka now goes superfast in ball mode and does not have a drain on its shield. There do not appear to have been changes made to the amount of damage that the bullets do.

In short, the mod is all right. It’s pretty simple and moderately fun to play. Download it if you like the screenshots.

Review: 501st Mod

Our first review on this site! It’s a very thrilling experience for us here at SWBFMac.

Today, we have a submission from the Avion Modders. This file is a side mod covering the Clone Wars era from the Avion Modders. Included in the file is a demo mod of a Mandalorian side mod that is presumably upcoming.

The mod is pretty straightforward. Essentially, it’s a couple changed around weapons, a lot of new skins, some new vehicles, and a couple other small things. It’s supposedly based around some sort of rogue clone troopers that get drafted by the Imperials or something. I guess in modding (at least for this game) the backstory isn’t too important, but it’s an interesting thing to see in a mod- shows that there is something more to it than “here, have some random characters”.

The clones receive the most changes in this mod. They have new models for pretty much every unit and a couple vehicles (those that don’t have new skins) and the CIS gets shafted as usual with only some retextured units and a rifle as their secondary weapon. The clones have a bunch of new stuff, like a shotgun for a couple of units, some enhanced thermal detonators, sniper rifles for a great deal of units, and rifles for everyone as a replacement for the pistol. One unit even has two rifles! The demo Imperial side is pretty plain as well- it’s just a model change and a couple swapped weapons.

Overall, it’s not too bad for a standard first mod. There are no glaring bugs or anything like that, but it could definitely use some enhancements to make it something that you truly want to play instead of something you just play to change it up a little.
